Pre-Approved ADU - Beverly Hills, CA
In the fall of 2024, the City of Beverly Hills invited design teams to submit applications for their Pre-Approved ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) program. We have happily submitted this design, derived from our Vicksburg ADU, and adapted to fit on the majority of residential sites in Beverly Hills. It also complies with both the standard size and height requirements. The ADU has one bedroom and one bath with an open kitchen, living and dining area.
The shape of the shed roof creates dramatic, high ceilings and opportunities for ample natural daylight with clerestory windows in the living room and bedroom while the lower awning provides cover and shade for the doors and windows below. Large sliding glass doors give the opportunity for indoor/outdoor living with adjoining patio and seating areas. The use of many glass doors in the corner facing where an existing house would be creates the opportunity for a communal space between the two buildings.
Inside, a full kitchen sits opposite the wall of windows with an island large enough for seating and entertaining. The full bathroom has room for extra storage and a large walk-in shower. The design is focused on sustainability as well, offering heat pump appliances for both heating/cooling and water heating and solar photovoltaic panels on the roof. Finally, there is a large storage closet accessed from the exterior in the rear of the building.
