Marcasel Recording Studio - West Los Angeles, CA

The Marcasel Recording Studio is a new, 1,000 sf music studio located on a residential lot in West Los Angeles. It is a harmonious blend of modern design and acoustic precision. As you approach, the exterior features clean lines and a minimalist facade. The strong gable shape of the building is enhanced as the standing seam metal roof wraps down the side walls to the ground. The gutters are hidden in the profile so as not to disturb the clean edge of the shape.

The live and recording rooms inside each act as a building-within-a-building as they are completely physically separated from each other and the exterior envelope. The exterior walls are mostly concrete block, with wood end walls in the non-acoustic spaces. The live and recording rooms are both framed with steel studs. They also have separate vaulted ceilings well below the roof framing.

The entire building is thoughtfully designed with soundproofing in mind. Walls and sloped ceilings are lined to ensure optimal sound quality with stylish acoustic panels of several different materials. These include fabric wrapped acoustic foam, wood and gabion rock walls panels. The live room features two sets of large bi-folding glass doors, one swings out at the exterior envelope and the other swings in sealing the recording room separately.

A large, custom fixed window with sloping glass panes and an extra-deep sill offers a clear view from the control room to the recording area. Both rooms feature precisely angled walls in non-uniform shapes to create the best acoustic conditions.

The project is currently under construction, with an expected completion date of early 2025.
