The exterior of the home has been updated with a new, standing-seam metal roof, aluminum windows and painted, fiber cement board siding.

Fairview Residence - Agoura Hills, CA

Located in the Historic District of Agoura Hills on equestrian-zoned land, this one-story California ranch-style house was transformed and updated to a modern, “beach-chic” farmhouse. The whole house has had a complete makeover: Spanish tile roof was replaced with dark gray standing seam metal; stucco siding was replaced with white, fiber cement board siding; all new dark bronze anodized windows and doors were installed, often in increased openings. Three small additions, totaling 250 SF, were added to create improved interior spaces and circulation.

At the interior, the main living areas, Kitchen/ Living/ Dining, illuminated by 4 large skylights and improved openings on the exterior rear wall, are now open to each other and the backyard pool area. New wood floors throughout, as well as updated fixtures, finishes and lighting everywhere, make this home feel open, clean and new again!

The kitchen features custom cabinetry, a SubZero refrigerator/ freezer, a Wolf range, a Kohler farmhouse-style apron sink, an island with seating for four, and a wine refrigerator and storage in a bar area that is easily accessible without interrupting the chef. Custom wood cabinetry is featured here and throughout the house.

A whimsical light fixture and vaulted ceilings animate the foyer space.

Rear view of the house. Scroll to see “before” image. The overall mass of the building remained mostly the same. Window and door openings changed a little to allow for more natural light. The stucco and clay tile roof were replaced with fiber cement board siding and metal roof. (No work was done to the pool in this phase.)

The open floor plan allows for distinct functions within the large space while maintaining visual access both to the other interior areas and to the back yard through a wall of operable glass doors.

The dining area is at one end of the great room with high ceilings and an updated fireplace.

The opposite end of the great room houses the living room with built-in storage around the second fire place.

The built-in wine bar offers a transition between the living and dining areas and the kitchen.

The ‘beauty-modern’ vibe is continued in the kitchen with clean lines, white cabinets and drift wood accents.

All three bathrooms in the home offer similar color palettes of white and gray marble, light woods and metal accents, but with a unique spin to each.

In the larger primary bathroom, large scale tile was utilized to span those larger areas, while highlighting the freestanding bathtub.

Smaller marble tiles were used in the two other bathrooms giving each it’s own individual style while staying cohesive with the rest of the home.
